Materials & Quality
9 questionsYes. Completely. Every piece uses surgical-grade 316L stainless steel or premium brass, plated with 18K gold, rose gold, or rhodium. Nickel-free. Tested to UK REACH compliance standards.
We have hundreds of customers with sensitive skin, eczema, and nickel allergies who wear Oxshire daily without any reaction. If you do experience a reaction, which we're confident you won't, our guarantee covers an immediate replacement or full refund.
Our gold plating is 3 microns thick — 3 to 5× the standard for fashion jewellery. Worn daily with normal care, you can expect 1–3 years before any noticeable fading. That's backed by our 12-month tarnish-free guarantee.
The single most important habit for extending plating life: apply perfume, skincare, and hairspray first, then put on your jewellery.
We use AAA-grade cubic zirconia and premium glass crystals, the same optical quality as mined stones, with none of the ethical concerns or astronomical markup. Every stone is individually hand-set and graded for brilliance and light refraction before it leaves our studio.
What makes a stone look extraordinary is the setting and the grade, not whether it's mined or created. Ours are extraordinary.
Depending on the piece: either surgical-grade 316L stainless steel( harder, more durable, ideal for everyday pieces) or premium brass( better for intricate stone settings due to its malleability). Both are nickel-free. The specific base metal is noted on every product page.
The plating thickness, the base metal, and the quality of the bond between them. Standard fashion jewellery uses 0.5 – 1 micron plating, ours is 3. At that thickness, normal exposure to air, moisture, and light contact with skin doesn't penetrate it the way it would cheaper jewellery.
It's not indestructible, sustained chemical exposure (bleach, heavy perfume directly on the metal, chlorine pools) will still degrade it over time. Normal daily wear won't.
Showering: occasional exposure won't damage it, but we'd recommend removing it as a habit. Cumulative exposure to soap, steam, and hard water shortens the life of any plating.
Swimming: remove it. Chlorine in pools and salt in sea water actively attack metal plating. This is true of every plated jewellery brand, we just tell you honestly rather than letting you find out the hard way.
Yes. We use AAA-grade synthetic stones specifically because they carry none of the mining ethics concerns associated with natural gems. Our metal suppliers are all UK and EU-regulated. Our packaging is FSC-certified and biodegradable where possible.
We don't make a marketing campaign out of it, we just do it. Because it should be the default, not a differentiator.
Tarnishing. Discolouration. Plating wearing through. Stone falling out. Clasp breaking under normal use. Any manufacturing defect. If any of these happen within 12 months of purchase, we replace the piece free of charge. No receipt needed. No form to fill in. One email.
What it doesn't cover: physical damage from impact, intentional misuse, or exposure to chemicals (bleach, heavy acids). Those aren't manufacturing defects, but they're also rare, and when in doubt, contact us and we'll assess it fairly.
Designed in Edinburgh. Each piece is quality-inspected, packaged, and dispatched from our Edinburgh studio. We don't dropship. We don't outsource fulfilment. Every order leaves from us, and we stand behind every single one of them.
Sizing & Fit
6 questionsWrap a strip of paper around your finger at its widest point, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in millimetres. Enter that into our interactive Size Guide and it gives you your exact UK size. Two minutes, no guesswork.
Critical tips: measure at the end of the day (fingers swell in warmth), measure at room temperature, and if you're between two sizes, choose the larger one. You can always make a ring tighter. You can't make it wider.
Our most popular: 18" (Princess), sits just below the collarbone, works with virtually every neckline, and is what we ship as the default on most pendants. 16" (Collar) for a classic evening look. 14" (Choker) for plunging necklines. 20–24" for statement and layering lengths.
Every Oxshire necklace includes a 2-inch extender chain, giving you extra flexibility without needing to exchange.
Measure your wrist below the wrist bone. Add 1–2cm for a fitted everyday wear, or 3–4cm for a relaxed stacked look. Our chain bracelets include a 1-inch extender. Our tennis bracelet is adjustable ±1cm via the box clasp.
Not a problem. Email: returns@oxshire.co.uk with your order number and the size you need. We send a prepaid return label and dispatch the correct size the moment your return arrives. Free both ways, zero fuss.
Order the most common size, UK L for women, UK T for men, and we'll include a card in the gift explaining how to request a free size exchange if needed. Our 14-day returns policy applies to the recipient, so there's no risk.
All Oxshire earring posts are 0.7–0.8mm, the standard gauge for pierced ears globally (21–20 gauge). This fits any standard piercing. If you have stretched or non-standard piercings, check your gauge before ordering.
Jewellery Care
8 questionsSix habits that will extend the life of any piece dramatically:
- Remove before swimming, chlorine and salt water are the fastest way to degrade plating
- Apply perfume, hairspray, skincare first, then put on your jewellery
- Store in the anti-tarnish pouch included with every order
- Wipe gently with the polishing cloth after each wear
- Remove before sleeping, friction damages the finish over time.
- Never use ultrasonic cleaners, they damage settings and strip plating
Follow these and your pieces will look extraordinary for years.
Routine cleaning: the polishing cloth included with every order. For a deeper clean, a soft cloth lightly dampened with warm water, never submerge the piece or apply soap directly to stones.
Never use: silver polish, toothpaste, abrasive cleaners, ultrasonic machines, or any chemical cleaner. These strip plating. If a piece has dulled within the guarantee period, contact us, we'll replace it rather than have you attempt to restore it.
Day-to-day: The anti-tarnish pouch included with every order. Longer storage: back in the original gift box, in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.
Most importantly: store pieces individually. Don't pile them in a drawer or jewellery box where they rub against each other. Scratching damages plating faster than almost anything else.

Perfume, hairspray, and many skincare products contain alcohol and chemical compounds that react with metal plating at a molecular level, accelerating the breakdown of the bond between the plating and the base metal.
The rule is simple: spray first, jewellery second. Apply everything, let it absorb fully, then put your jewellery on. One habit. Years of difference.

You can, but we'd recommend removing it for intense exercise. Sweat contains salt and acids that, over repeated exposure, break down plating faster than normal wear. If you do wear it, wipe it with a dry cloth immediately after and let it air before storing.
Many customers wear simpler pieces like studs or a delicate necklace daily including at the gym without issue. It's about cumulative exposure, not a single workout.
If it's within 12 months of purchase, contact us. It's covered by our guarantee and we'll replace it, no questions, no forms, no delay.
Outside the guarantee period: try buffing gently with the polishing cloth, this often removes light surface oxidation. For significant tarnishing, a professional re-plate from a local jeweller is the most effective solution.
